Part of being a freelancer is having little meeting spots around the city in case you need to chat with an editor or rendezvous with someone about a story you're working on. Especially since, if you're like me, your house is either not conveniently located or looks like it's occupied by squatters or feral animals, not exactly the most professional of images.
Caffe Umbria...so Euro!
Which is why a place like Caffe Umbria is so nice. Located in the Pearl just off Burnside, its clean lines and civilized atmo are perfect for taking care of business, and you'd be hard-pressed to find better coffee anyplace in town.
You might remember Torrefazione Italia, the molto Italiano espresso bars around town that were bought up and summarily closed down by Starbucks a few years ago. It was owned by the Bizzari family, and they're responsible for Caffe Umbria's similar vibe. Perfect cappucinos, tasty flatbread sandwiches as well as salads and pastries are the order of the day, so whether you're schmoozing or just need to take a break, it's a great spot to put on your list.
Details: Caffe Umbria, 303 NW 12th Ave. Phone 503-241-5300.
